There are far fewer stop signs in New Zealand than in the U.S. Many intersections simply have give way signs - or even just a triangle drawn on the road - indicating that you don’t have to come to a complete stop if it’s not necessary. 

I always notice this most when someone behind me lovingly reminds me with a tap on their horn…
